Sophie felt a strong bond with Izzy, a stunning ginger and white cat who became blind after getting hit by a car while living on the streets of Bosnia. Her connection with the feline was sparked by a post from World Animal Friends on Facebook. Sophie recalls feeling a sense of vulnerability and helplessness when she saw the cat’s picture online.
Meet Izzy, a young cat who has been through some tough times. At just over a year old, she was pregnant when she was hit by a car, resulting in the loss of her right eye and the vision in her left due to a detached retina. Sadly, she also lost all of her unborn kittens. On top of these injuries, poor Izzy suffered a fractured jaw and tail and even went into respiratory arrest during surgery. It’s amazing that she survived such trauma at such a young age.
Sophie wasn’t deterred by Izzy’s extensive trauma and was drawn to her because she knew how incredibly resilient animals with special needs could be. Having adopted her first blind cat, Puzzle, who was also deaf and very old, Sophie understood the joys of taking care of such animals. When Sophie learned about Izzy in 2019, she was still grieving the loss of Puzzle and unsure if she was ready to open her home and heart to another pet. Nevertheless, Sophie applied for the adoption, and to her surprise and delight, it was approved, though she had to wait several months before Izzy could travel from Bosnia to her home in Manchester, England. Izzy traveled for three days in a van with several other cats and dogs who were also being adopted. Finally, on December 15, 2019, Izzy arrived, and Sophie and her husband Alex met her in person. Izzy ate three full bowls of food before sleeping, and Sophie slept in the same room as Izzy, where she woke up to find Izzy nuzzled into her — it was love at first sight!
Izzy, a beautiful ginger and white cat, may be blind but she has no trouble navigating her forever home thanks to her strong bond with her owner Sophie. Despite being blind, Izzy is an active and independent cat who even enjoys going out into the garden and chasing her brother. She does have some challenges due to entropion, a condition that requires regular injections and daily eye drops, but she lives a relatively normal and pain-free life. In fact, Izzy has been a huge comfort to both of her parents, earning the nickname “Therapy Cat” for her ability to ground and comfort them when they need it.
Sophie was hesitant about adopting another cat, but after laying eyes on Izzy in 2019, she couldn’t resist. Even though Izzy is blind, Sophie is grateful to have her as a part of the family. Like Sophie’s previous special needs cat, Puzzle, who passed away in 2018, Izzy has shown that with some patience, visually impaired cats can lead joyful and satisfying lives. This was demonstrated by Izzy’s ability to live a fulfilling life despite being blind.
According to Sophie, blind cats are superheroes in the feline world and can be the most amazing pets. She believes that assuming they are difficult to take care of is doing them a great injustice. Izzy, a blind cat on Instagram, is a perfect example of how blind cats can lead happy and fulfilling lives with the right care and attention.
Sophie has come to realize that taking care of blind cats is not as difficult as one might think and can actually be quite fulfilling. One particular cat, Izzy, caught her attention when she first saw a picture of the feline. At that time, Izzy was in poor shape after being rescued from the streets of Bosnia by Rusmira. However, thanks to the dedication of World Animal Friends and Izzy’s loving parents, she has made a remarkable recovery and is doing well.
Sophie expresses her admiration for Izzy, who despite her past experiences, maintains a positive outlook on life. Additionally, Sophie notes that Izzy is very perceptive of human emotions, which has endeared her to Sophie. Overall, Izzy holds a special place in Sophie’s heart.
